DHEC Asks 500 Tri-County Spinal Care Center Patients to Be Tested for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV

On May 29, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) advised patients who received injections at the Tri-County Spinal Care Center to get tested for HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C because of problems with infection control at the center.

So far, three patients have tested positive for hepatitis B. SCDHEC identified 23 patients who received injections similar to those received by these three patients, and approximately 500 who received any injection at the clinic.

SCDHEC is expanding the investigation to include all patients who received injections of any kind, including intravenous fluids, at the center in the past 21 months.
