Speaking at the Caribbean Meeting on
Strategic HIV Investment and Sustainable Financing held in Kingston on May 29,
Jamaican Health Minister Dr. Fenton Ferguson said that the island nation will
require $3.3 billion by 2030 to fund its National HIV program.
The minister said that the program
will require these funds to help ensure that the country’s present 1.7-percent
HIV prevalence rate is not surpassed. The Caribbean region currently has the
world’s second highest rate of HIV infection.
