An estimated 2 million adolescents
are living with HIV in Africa where most are unaware of their serologic status.
The data are contained in report
released during scientific activity on HIV/AIDS which quoted a recent studies
as saying.
According to the document, only 15
percent of young people, aged 15-24 years, and ten percent of youths in
sub-Saharan Africa conducted the test and know their HIV47 condition.
The evidence shows that most
sere-positive people have not benefitting yet from the positive health, dignity and prevention, (PHDP) efforts.
Young people living with the
pandemic face similar difficulties around the HIV prevention and management of
potential disagreement among partners as HIV negative youths," reads the
document.
The source also mentions that the
PHDP strategies face the challenge of influencing the younger, given the
perception that the HIV among themselves worsened with more new infections
attributed to the sense of irresponsibility towards others.
“Some children are not aware of
their status as their guardians are not available to inform them on their
condition”, concluded the document.
