Hudson Valley AIDS Walk Celebrates 20 Years

Registration for the 20th annual Hudson Valley AIDS Walk is now open, ARCS (AIDS Related Community Services), its organizer, recently announced. The May 5 walk is planned for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Walkway Over the Hudson.

Poughkeepsie residents will walk toward Highland at 10:45 and join the group across the river; then all walkers will cross over to Poughkeepsie at 11:30. Free snacks and entertainment will be offered at an after-party at the Brown Derby, 96 Main St. in Poughkeepsie.

Last year’s walk attracted more than 500 people and collected more than $50,000 to support ARCS’ programs. In honor of this year’s 20th anniversary walk, all participants are urged to raise at least $20 in donations. “Our goal is to raise $100,000 at this very special AIDS Walk,” said Jeff Kraus, ARCS’ executive director. “This is a great way for people to tell their neighbors living with HIV, ‘We care about you, and we want you to keep on surviving.’”
