Alberta Health is cautioning people not to eat Pomeberry Blend frozen berry product, which may be linked to hepatitis A virus. Anyone who has purchased Pomeberry Blend since November 2011 and has it in their freezer or refrigerator is asked to discard it.
Eight cases of hepatitis A diagnosed in the past two months are under investigation by the British Columbia Center for Disease Control, and five of the patients are known to have eaten the Pomeberry product. No cases have been identified in Alberta.
The product contains pomegranate seeds, blueberries, strawberries and cherries; it is manufactured by Western Family and distributed through Save-On-Foods and Overwaitea. Anyone who has consumed Pomeberry Blend and feels unwell is advised to contact their doctor.
