Oregon School Clinic Won't Offer Birth Control

A plan to offer condoms and prescription contraceptives at Tigard High’s School Based Health Center was shelved after a committee recently decided to make no recommendation on the policy change.

The advisory committee to the Tigard-Tualatin School Board received community feedback at two lightly attended listening sessions and from 538 online surveys. Most respondents opposed the proposal. Support for the idea was unanimous among the two students who attended the meetings and the 32 who took the survey.

“Clearly the community is divided about the distribution of contraceptives at the School Based Health Center. The advisory committee is also equally divided,” the committee said in its statement.
