According to a report in the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, Amory Public Schools has adopted an abstinence-only approach for sex education classes beginning in the fall. Parents will decide whether their children take part in the classes, in which students will be separated by gender. Under state law, Mississippi school districts have until June 30 to decide whether to offer abstinence-only or abstinence-plus sex education starting with the 2012-13 academic year.
Dining Out for Life, a Benefit for Health Trust AIDS Services, Set for April 26
Health Trust AIDS Services - which offers food, housing, case management, and job counseling to some 800 low-income local residents with HIV/AIDS - will benefit from the Dining Out for Life fundraiser on Thursday, April 26. More than 40 Santa Clara County restaurants have signed up to donate at least 25 percent of their food sales that day to support HTAS. A Tasty Life Line
Forty-two Ottawa eateries are taking part in the 14th annual A Taste for Life on Wednesday, April 25. The restaurants will donate 25 percent of their sales that night to support people living with HIV/AIDS. Since its founding in 1995, the fundraiser has grown to include 23 communities in Ontario and Alberta and raised $2.2 million (US $2.213 million).
