The Walgreens drugstore chain is reducing by 75 percent the annual enrollment fee for its Prescription Savings Club—a discount program covering all generic medications and over 8,000 name brands—according to a Walgreens statement.
This promotion is aimed to help customers affected by the ongoing contract dispute between Walgreens and pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts Inc. As of the start of 2012, Express Scripts will no longer provide in-network coverage for prescriptions filled at Walgreens.
Normal yearly fees for the savings club cost $25 per person or $35 per family. During January, Walgreens offers the program at $5 per individual and $10 per family for eligible customers.
