The White House has responded to a petition to legalize and regulate marijuana, stating there is yet no scientific data to support legalization, according to a White House statement.
Citing the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration and the President’s National Drug Control Strategy, the statement asserts that studies have shown marijuana is associated with addiction and developmental brain delays and that smoked marijuana has not been shown to meet the modern standard for safe or effective medicinal use.
The National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws (NORML) has responded with its own statement, refuting every claim in the White House response with scientific studies and asking again that the White House consider regulating cannabis as it does alcohol and tobacco.
