Asia Shares with Vietnam Experience in HIV Prevention

A four-day regional conference entitled “Prevention, Care and Treatment of HIV for Drug Addicts” got underway Monday in Ho Chi Minh City.

David Shear, US ambassador to Vietnam, said at the opening session that the gathering will seek to lay a foundation for sustainable and efficient interventions for substance users at risk of HIV infection.

Organized by the Office of the US Global AIDS Coordinator in cooperation with Vietnamese agencies, the meeting is expected to provide updated scientific information on best practices and lessons learned, the impact of providing HIV prevention and care for drug users, and the response of individual nations and the international community.

The more than 100 delegates in attendance include representatives from the United States and 11 countries in the region.
