Federal Grand Jury Indicts Florida Man for Selling Unapproved HIV, Hep C Testing Kits

A federal grand jury has indicted a Florida man for selling unapproved HIV and hepatitis C testing kits online, The Sun Sentinel reports.

Jonathan Barash was indicted on four counts of mail fraud and three counts of distribution of adulterated services. Each fraud charge carries up to 20 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.

Federal authorities allege that Barash claimed his kits were approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and made in the United States. The kits were not FDA-approved. They were made in China and repackaged in his company’s boxes for sale on the Internet.
