Walmart, the United States’ largest retailer, may expand its medical services to include managing and monitoring people with chronic and costly health conditions such as HIV and diabetes, KPBS.org reports.
Currently, Walmart has about 140 in-store clinics, but it is looking into expanding that number before federal health care reform kicks in—that’s when millions more Americans are expected to have health insurance.
Opponents of retail medical clinics say that patients should have a regular source of care from someone who knows their medical history.
