Richard Jeffreys of the AIDS think tank Treatment Action Group (TAG) was granted a summary judgment in a defamation lawsuit by AIDS denialist Celia Farber, according to the Leonard Link blog.
Farber claimed that Jeffreys defamed her in an email by calling her a “liar” for spreading the belief that HIV does not cause AIDS.
New York State Supreme Court Justice Louis B. York ruled that Farber had to prove that Jeffreys had acted with malice or gross negligence for the truth. She was not able to prove this. Furthermore, Jeffreys maintained that his accusations were true and his position was supported by credible papers and arguments in the public domain.
The judge’s decision to reject Farber’s defamation claim does not apply to the two other defendants in the case.
