Chicago Announces Plan to Address Gay Health

The health needs of Chicago’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens are the focus of a new plan under development by the city.

In addition to addressing HIV prevention, obesity rates and access to care, the plan will tackle high levels of smoking in the LGBT community.

It also will seek to promote the inclusion of same-sex couples in programs that promote maternal and early childhood health; the collection of data on sexual orientation in electronic medical records; and better tracking of hate crimes committed against transgender individuals.

The Friends of AIDS Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for HIV positive individuals and empowering people to make healthy choices to prevent the spread of the HIV virus. To learn more about The Friends of AIDS Foundation, please visit: http://www.friendsofaids.org.
