The XVIII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010) is set to open in Vienna, Austria, on the 18th July, with more than 20,000 delegates.
The conference promises an interesting and diverse collection of presentations and sessions, covering a broad range of subjects in the HIV field, including new treatment, prevention and practice research.
This year's theme is ‘Rights Here, Right Now’, and the conference will have a big focus on human rights, and the need for science-based policies on drug use and HIV prevention, which respect human rights.
Vienna connects western Europe with eastern Europe and central Asia, and AIDS 2010 will undoubtedly highlight this region, where the HIV epidemic has its focus in injecting drug use. An official declaration (The Vienna Declaration) of the conference has already been released, calling for the incorporation of scientific evidence into illicit drug policies.
This conference will also feature keenly awaited results from the first major efficacy study of a microbicide that uses an antiretroviral drug to prevent HIV infection in women. The Friends of AIDS Foundation will provide you with rapid and informed reporting on the results of this study.\
The Friends of AIDS Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for HIV positive individuals and empowering people to make healthy choices to prevent the spread of the HIV virus. To learn more about The Friends of AIDS Foundation, please visit: http://www.friendsofaids.org.
