Brazil has announced a plan to share its AIDS-fighting expertise with South Africa in a campaign called "Score a Goal - Brazil and South Africa in the Field Against AIDS."
The effort will launch Friday in a Johannesburg public viewing area where people gather to watch World Cup matches. As part of the effort, a bus from Brazil's Ministry of Health will travel to several South African towns to distribute condoms and information on preventing HIV and other STDs. The outreach will continue through July 18, one week after the World Cup concludes. While South Africa's HIV prevalence is about 18 percent, Brazil's is just 0.6 percent.
