NorCal AIDS Cycle (NCAC) has named
11 nonprofit recipients of funds to be raised by its annual 330-mile four-day
ride, scheduled for May 16–19, 2013. The following beneficiary organizations
will share the $250,000 plus expected revenue from its HIV/AIDS cycling
fundraiser: Breaking Barriers, CARES Clinic Dental Program, Golden Rule
Services, Harm Reduction Services, River City Food Bank, Sacramento Gay &
Lesbian Center, SANE (Safer Alternatives thru Networking and Education), and
Sunburst Projects, all of Sacramento, Calif.; Sierra Foothills AIDS Foundation
of Auburn, Calif.; Caring Choices of Chico, Calif.; and Shasta Trinity Tehama
HIV Food Bank of Redding, Calif.
Since it began in 2005, NCAC has
raised approximately $1.25 million dollars to benefit nonprofit HIV/AIDS
service providers in the Greater Sacramento region and surrounding areas.
NCAC’s contributions to small nonprofit organizations has meant the difference
between these organizations being able to continue providing HIV/AIDS services
to remote or underserved California communities or being forced to close.
NCAC raised slightly more than
$250,000 in 2012, with 150 cyclists and 75 support crew members. Each
participating NCAC cyclist pledges to raise a minimum of $1,500, and each
volunteer crew member pledges $250, with many participants raising much more
than those minimums. NCAC is offering a “Valentine Special” discounted
registration to show appreciation to its cyclists and volunteer crew members.
On February 13–14, participants can register for $50, a $25 discount off the
regular registration fee. Visit: http://www.NorCalAIDSCycle.org, click on
“register,” and use the code “HEART” to receive the special discount rate.
The 2013 ride will begin on
Thursday, May 16, with an opening ceremony and rideout at Folsom Lake. Cyclists
will follow a challenging, circuitous route through the Sierra foothills and
northern Central Valley, and will be able to camp overnight at Gridley,
Williams, and Woodland, Calif. The ride will end on Sunday, May 19, with a
closing ceremony at the California State Capitol.
