National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Event

In recognition of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Abounding Prosperity, Inc., a community-based organization in Dallas, Texas, will host an 8-hour testing marathon with the assistance of Parkland Hospital, AIDS Arms, Starbucks, Rite Care Pharmacy, 97.9 The Beat, Legacy Counseling Center, and other community sponsors and partners. The purpose of the program is to emphasize the importance of protecting oneself, families, and communities by knowing one’s HIV status.

Testing will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on February 7, 2013, at Abounding Prosperity’s corporate offices located at 2311 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

During the day the organization will provide free testing to persons 17 years and older and will supply free coffee, hot dogs, and other snacks and beverages. Also, as a kickoff to the testing event, there will be a press conference at 10:00 a.m. to introduce PrEP/UP, a training, education, and social marketing series to educate clients and other providers who render HIV services. The press conference will provide information about the implementation plans for PrEP/UP, and state and local officials will speak about the program and its potential impact on the city and state.
