'The Voice' Star to Share Song, Story

Singer Jamar Rogers, who performed on the television series “The Voice” last year, is scheduled to speak in a public program entitled “Lift Every Voice: Jamar Rogers on Faith, Hope, and Facing HIV/AIDS” from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on March 8, in the Austin-East Performing Arts High School Auditorium, 2800 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Knoxville, Tenn.

Rogers took the opportunity to reveal his HIV-positive status while on “The Voice” to offer encouragement and hope to young people watching the show. The singer credits the support of his mother and his faith with helping him to break an addiction to drugs.

The program “Lift Every Voice” culminates a week of activities, including education, prayer ,and HIV testing in honor of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS.

The local Faith-based Approaches and Initiatives To Help Reduce HIV/AIDS (FAITH) Coalition is sponsoring the events. Tickets for the public program may be purchased in advance at (865) 523–7521 or http://www.knoxtix.com for $10 ($5 for students) or $15 at the door.
