Dr. Derek Brown, of Paoli, Ind., and
a graduate of Vincennes University (VU), is serving as the Honorary Chair of
the 4th Annual VU Greater Vincennes AIDS Walk.
The event will take place on March
23 at 2:00 p.m. at the VU Student Recreation Center, in Vincennes, Ind., with
free HIV testing beginning at noon.
Testing positive for HIV in 1994,
Dr. Brown has worked for a nonprofit agency called H.E.L.P. (Health Education
Learning Project.) in Fort Worth, Texas, in which he spoke to high school teens
about living with AIDS. He moved back to the Midwest two years ago, and is
focusing on making people aware that HIV/AIDS is not gone. Through the AIDS
Walk, Dr. Brown hopes to reach at-risk people and provide them with health
education and prevention information.
