In conjunction with the eighth
annual National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on March 10, Santa
Barbara Neighborhood Clinics (SBNC) West Side Clinic will offer free
HIV/hepatitis C testing to women and girls of South Santa Barbara County on
March 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 628 W. Micheltorena Street, Santa
Barbara, Calif.
Participants will be offered a
choice between a 20–40-minute quick test or a blood test.
The theme of this year’s awareness
day, coordinated by the Office on Women’s Health in the US Department of Health
and Human Services, is “Share Knowledge; Take Action.”
The nationwide observance is held to
raise awareness of the ever-increasing impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls
and to encourage individuals and communities to take action. According to SBNC
HIV/Hepatitis C Program Director Javier Ortega, women of all ages account for
approximately 24 percent of all HIV diagnoses.
