Empower “U,” a nonprofit
organization formed to serve HIV-positive individuals who are either marginally
connected or are not receiving any medical care or services, is sponsoring an
Empowerment Conference on December 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their
headquarters located at 8309 NW 22nd Avenue in Miami, according to the
organization’s Outreach Coordinator Theresa Jones.
The conference will include a health
fair, HIV testing, medical screenings, seminars and workshops, a World AIDS Day
Walk, and a Dance Competition requiring HIV/AIDS themes in the performances.
Also on December 1, the Epic Hotel
will present “De Fabulous,” an evening of glamour and beauty, which will
include a fashion show, silent auction, raffles, and complimentary cocktails
between 9 and 10 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Unity Coalition,
a local nonprofit group which advocates for the LGBT Latino community.
