South Florida to Get HIV/AIDS Funds

The US Department of Health and Human Services is releasing, through the Ryan White program, $1.84 billion to help people with HIV/AIDS access health care and medications. Florida's share of the Part B funds ($118.43 million) is the nation's third-highest, after New York ($161.45 million) and California ($134.60 million). Miami will receive $25.70 million in Part A funds; Fort Lauderdale will get $15.40 million; and West Palm Beach will receive $9.16 million. Nationally, more than $48.1 million is being disbursed to fund early intervention services for HIV patients. Three South Florida organizations have been awarded grants through this effort: the Helen B. Bentley Family Health Center in Miami, Borinquen Health Care Center in Miami, and Florida Community Health Centers in West Palm Beach.
