Florida Proposes Restricting ADAP Eligibility

In the face of the growing AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) crisis in Florida, the HIV/AIDS Bureau of that state’s health department has proposed restricting ADAP eligibility, The Florida Independent reports.

The bureau wants to make it tougher to access ADAP by requiring participants’ income to be 200 percent or less of the federal poverty level. Currently, people who earn 400 percent or less of the federal poverty level can qualify for assistance. This proposal would bump more people off ADAP and put them on waiting lists. More than 3,900 people in Florida are currently on the ADAP waiting list.
