Twelve AIDS activists were arrested inside House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s Capitol office and charged with unlawful conduct, reports The Washington Post.
The protest, organized by Health GAP, ACT UP Philadelphia, Housing Works and the Student Global AIDS Campaign, was held to bring attention to cuts in funding to international and domestic HIV/AIDS programs for the 2011 fiscal year. Protestors said the cuts were risking the lives of 1 million people living with HIV worldwide and that this would likely be the first of more protests.
