Planned Parenthood is remodeling a
former restaurant in unincorporated North Fair Oaks with the goal of opening it
as a medical clinic next year. The clinic will offer reproductive and
preventative health care services, including cancer screenings, testing and
treatment for STDs, contraceptives and HIV tests.
During the remodeling phase, Planned
Parenthood will park a medical van on the site on Tuesdays to provide limited
women’s health services.
San Mateo County Senior Planner Dave
Holbrook said the former restaurant site at 2907 El Camino Real is zoned for
commercial use, which allows medical clinics. Having enough parking will be a
consideration before the county issues a permit, Holbrook said.
Lupe Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for
Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, said the health organization is “absolutely
confident” the site has enough parking spots. Last year, plans to open a clinic
about a block away were dropped because of insufficient parking at that site.
