In preparation for its 2013 AIDS Walk Washington, scheduled
for October 26, the Washington D.C. nonprofit community health center
Whitman-Walker Health recently launched a promotional campaign to encourage
participation in the event, which supports the center’s HIV/AIDS prevention and
treatment efforts.
The campaign, “Face the Facts: Walk the Walk,” shares
statistics about Washington D.C.’s HIV epidemic to show that much work remains
in the effort to reduce HIV prevalence.
The event will offer participants the choice of walking or
running along a 5-kilometer course through areas of downtown Washington. This
year marks the 27th year for the fundraiser, which raised slightly more than $1
million last year.
The event will take place at downtown’s Freedom Plaza, 13th
Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, and will begin at 7:00 a.m. The run will
begin at 9:15 a.m. and the walk will follow at 9:20 a.m.
