On Friday, November 16, the
Metropolitan Interdenominational Church Technical Assistance Network (MICTAN)
is hosting a free regional symposium, “We’ve Come Too Far to Turn Back Now,”
from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriot, located at 5555
Shellmound St. in Emeryville, CA.
The goal of the symposium is to
provide local clergy and faith leaders with the information and skills needed
to deal with the HIV/AIDS crisis among their African American parishioners.
Faith leaders will also be encouraged to sign up for a series of four monthly
follow-up seminars led by prominent experts in the field.
The sponsor of the symposium,
MICTAN, is a national clergy-led capacity-building faith initiative funded by
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). According to the CDC,
although African Americans represent approximately 14 percent of the population
in the United States, they account for approximately half of the more than one
million individuals estimated to have HIV and nearly half of the new HIV
infections each year.
To attend the symposium, RSVP by
November 13 to vnellis@metropolitanfrc.com, or craighutchinson@gmail.com, or
call 1-615-953-3316 or 1-510-268-7630. For further information email
